About the standard

BAP is administered by the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing responsible seafood practices through education, advocacy and third-party assurances in responsible aquaculture.

BAP includes the entire aquaculture production chain from farms to processing plants, as well as hatcheries and feed factories; it also addresses environmental, social responsibility, animal welfare, food safety and traceability of aquaculture facilities.

BAP Certification process

To begin, complete the application and agreement electronically through the provided BAP link, then fill out the self-assessment questionnaire. After submission, BAP will issue an invoice, and you’ll be required to proceed with the payment.

Application form

If BAP assigns the audit to CU Services, we will provide an agreement outlining the Terms of Contract; once you review and approve it, simply return a copy signed by your legal representative, and you will officially enter into an agreement with CU Services to participate in one of our certification programs.

After receiving the signed agreement, CU Services will schedule your inspection visit.

CU Services will perform a full on-site audit. If non-conformities are found, you must present corrective actions to close them. The auditor will review and close the nonconformities.

Based on the inspection findings, the certifier will perform a technical review of the report and determine compliance or non-compliance with the BAP standard. If compliance is determined, a BAP certificate will be issued and sent to BAP.

BAP will be notified of the certification and will issue an invoice; once the payment is received, they will send you the certificate along with a validation letter. As benefits, your facility will be listed on the BAP website, receive the BAP logo, and gain Business Member status with the Global Aquaculture Alliance.

Every year after the initial certification, you will have to go through the entire certification process again. The OC to which you are assigned will determine if the requirements for certification continue to be met.
