    About the scheme

    The Green Gold Label (GGL) scheme ensures that biomass products originate from sustainable sources. It covers all points of origin, including agricultural and forestry activities, and incorporates detailed supply chain data such as energy use and carbon emissions. The scheme holds official recognition from the Dutch and Japanese governments. GGL is currently undergoing the recognition process under RED II by the European Commission.

    Specific standards are applicable

    The main focus of the Green Gold Label includes: ● The use of biomass for electricity and heat production. ● The use of biomass for the production of chemicals and other bio-based materials. The GGL scheme applies standards according to the business of the participant company as follows: ● GGLS1 (Chain of Custody) ● GGLS2 (Agricultural Source Criteria) ● GGLS4 (Transaction and Product Certificate) ● GGLS5 (Forest Management Criteria) ● GGLS6 (Power Company Criteria)

    Energy and carbon data

    The GGL standards also cover energy and carbon data that must be provided throughout the supply chain. Transaction certificates are issued for transactions between GGL certified companies in the supply chain.

    Accreditiation

    GGL audits are carried out annually. Control Union Certifications (CUC) is accredited by the RvA (Dutch Accreditation Council) for the GGL scheme. CUC has certified companies across the globe against the scheme’s requirements. Control Union Certifications BV is accredited by RVA for this scheme under registration nr. RvA-C412 Products.
