SMETA

Control Union Certifications offers SMETA (Sedex Member Ethical Trade Audit) auditing, a method developed by the multi stakeholder consultation initiative, Sedex. SMETA’s role is to align social audit standards and monitoring practices, to ease the auditing burden on suppliers by sharing reports and driving improvements in supply chain labour standards.

    About the standard

SMETA is a widely used audit process that helps assess and improve standards related to labor, health and safety, environmental practices, and ethical conduct—either within an organization’s own operations or at a supplier’s site. After the audit, the firm provides a Corrective Action Plan with practical recommendations to help drive improvements where needed.

The main goal of a SMETA audit is to help protect workers from unsafe conditions, unfair treatment, discrimination, low wages, and any form of forced labor.
